  Black Forest Cake or Black Forest Gâteau originally made in the Black Forest region of Germany. The Black Forest Cake, also called “Schwarzwälder Kirschtorte” or “Black Forest Cherry-torte“, is made with a denser chocolate sponge cake layers soaked with cherry syrup and cherry brandy (or rum), then layered with whipped cream and cherries, and on top decorated with whipped cream.

  My version is made with sour cherry which gives the cake a tastier flavor.
